Wizard of Wandsworth
Eyes on the Prize - OUT NOW!
Che Lingo is a South London based rapper and singer. Che is also known as the Wizard of Wandsworth. Signed to 7Wallace, Idris Elba’s label, Che has a lot to say using his musical craft.
Unapology is the driving force in both Che Lingo’s lyrics and his visuals for his music videos. His videos are filled with hidden gems that emphasize the meanings and the language behind his lyrics.
South is a song that journey through Che Lingo's early upbringing and life's tribulations. He recounts his painful memories of growing up in South West London. In the song he raps about struggles such as his grandmother doing everything in her power to give him a good life and 'distract me from the dangers'.
Black ones is a song that speaks about the struggles of people from the 'ends'. It highlights the attitudes and reality of someone faced with a harsh reality where one would have to 'hide my face, profile low, change my number every week'. Che Lingo makes it known that these characteristics are from encounters with the police and how they can be unjust. Police brutality is a strong topic rapped about by both Che Lingo and grime legend, Ghetts.
Dark days is a song that expresses the importance of healing and comfort. It lightly explores Che Lingo's past of his father not being in his life. The lyrical composition encompasses metaphors and similes that explain the pain that was felt. The song also speaks about the comfort he received from the women in his life, his mother & 'nana'.
7Wallace is the record label founded by Idris Elba in 2015, with the aim of breaking boundaries in dance and hip hop music. Since then the company has expanded to include music publishing, in a joint venture with Universal Music Publishing.
